Vitamin D: Relation with Blood Cholesterol Levels |
Cholesterol has got a very important function to perform and that is to act as an ancestor of vitamin D. It is worth noting that the sources of vitamin D are generally animal foods and they are all high in cholesterol. Thus, inhibiting synthesis of cholesterol inhibits synthesis of vitamin D too. Thus, you must understand that if you are on a low cholesterol diet then actually you are on a diet that is deficient in vitamin D. Sunlight is a very rich source of vitamin D. Thus avoiding sun would mean that cholesterol is not being converted into vitamin D. |
