What Side Effects can Folic Acid Supplements Have? |
Folic Acid supplements are very common for people who suffer from deficiencies of folates or Vitamin B, for pregnant women especially, and for other people who take supplements. However, one must be careful while taking such supplements as many side effects are associated. Even though, as is always the case with side effects, that they depend and vary from person to person, some of the most commonly experienced side effects include nausea, a suppressed appetite, sleeplessness and loss of concentration. Abdominal distension and flatulence are more of such symptoms. Many studies show that intake of folic acid within a certain amount is harmless, and that it is only when large doses of folic acid are taken when allergies can be induced within the body. Seizures and breathing difficulties, as well as wheezing and reddening of skin are also some commonly observed side effects. Apart from these mild side effects, severe side effects can also afflict the patient. Some of these severe side effects occur when folic acids combine with other vitamins, and these include loss of muscle co-ordination, numbness, hives, etc. Diarrhoea and hyperactivity along with abnormal behaviour are also some problems. A patient, who suffers from side effects which last longer than usual, should immediately see the general physician. |
