Points to know about absorption of iron supplements

Iron supplements are found mostly in many types of food such as meat, whole grains, eggs, blackstrap molasses, green leafy vegetables, sea vegetables and poultry. Iron is also found many types of herbs such as horsetail, catnip, alfalfa, fenugreek, chamomile and rose hips. Iron plays the most important role in the life of a person since it contributes in the production of the hemoglobin in the blood. Iron also helps a person in supplying the oxygen to RBC’s. Iron also keeps the immune system of a person under control and also helps a person in producing energy. Iron supplements can be absorbed along with vitamin C. Vitamin C helps in increasing the absorption of iron by 30%. It is advisable that a person should not consume antacid along with iron. A person can consume along with copper, molybdenum and manganese which are responsible for increasing the amount of absorption of iron.  Excessive consumption of vitamin E and zinc are responsible for interfering in the absorption of iron. Complete iron absorption can also be done when a person consumes iron along with vitamin B and vitamin A. Sometimes iron absorption is not done fully due to diseases such as cancer and arthritis.
