Sodium has been consumed since ages as in imperative component of the food. The adequate intake of the mineral is essential for the regulation of digestive functions, formation of cells, transmissions of nerve signals and retention of water in the body. However, blind consumption of the mineral, both through the diet and medicines may lead to its excessive deposits in the body. This may lead to certain unwanted side effects, both major and minor in form. Excessive intake of the mineral leads to increased water retention which is harmful to the body. This sign may be particularly observed in the form of abrupt weight gain among people. In addition, excessive intake of the mineral may lead to high blood pressure, a condition better known as hypertension. Some people may observe high risks for stomach ulcers as another potent danger of excessive consumption of sodium. Generally, cases of sodium abundance take place in the body when the person indulges into un-mindful eating activities. These may include consumption of salted roasted nuts, meats, fishes, eggs, cheese, spinach, carrots, radishes. The intake of these products must be restricted to certain limit especially when a person is already consuming salt or sodium through regular diet. |
